MERRILLVILLE, Ind. – Two males are behind bars after a reckless driving spree, armed carjacking, and crash that led to a foot chase on Friday, authorities mentioned.
What we all know:
Indiana State Police initially responded to reviews of a reckless driver on I-65 southbound from I-80/I-94.
The car was reportedly seen swerving at excessive speeds between the left and proper shoulders, almost colliding with a number of vehicles.
Troopers later obtained reviews of a silver Honda that had crashed close to the US 30 ramp.
After the crash, two suspects exited the car and approached different drivers who had stopped to assist.
The suspects carjacked a black Acura at knifepoint, assaulted the driving force, and compelled them out of the car earlier than fleeing westbound on US 30, police mentioned.
Monitoring the Suspects:
Officers from Merrillville, Hobart, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Division assisted within the search and located the deserted Acura within the 7900 block of Rhode Island Avenue.
Troopers tracked footprints within the snow and used a K9 unit to find the suspects.
In the meantime, the Merrillville Fireplace Division reported two males who entered the station claiming they’d been robbed. Their descriptions matched these of the suspects, and police took them into custody.
The suspects have been recognized as 26-year-old Cain Knaus of Walshville, Ailing., and 34-year-old Stephanie Raices (also referred to as Victor Zarate) of Chicago and Bronx, N.Y. Knaus had an lively parole violation warrant.

Each have been booked into Lake County Jail and face a number of prices.

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Workplace accepted these prices in opposition to the 2 suspects:
- Armed robbery- Degree 3 felony
- Theft- Degree 5 felony
- Auto theft- Degree 6 felony
- Battery- Class B misdemeanor
- Leaving the scene of a crash- Class B misdemeanor
- Reckless driving- Class C misdemeanor
Authorities are nonetheless investigating which suspect was driving the car through the crash.
