Indiana man fatally shot by sheriff’s deputy recognized as Jan. 6 defendant

A northwest Indiana man who was charged in reference to the Jan. 6, 2021 breach of the U.S. Capitol constructing was shot and killed by an Indiana sheriff’s deputy throughout a site visitors cease Sunday afternoon.

The backstory:

The taking pictures occurred at 4:15 p.m. throughout a site visitors cease on State Street 14, east of County Street 475 E, close to the Pulaski County line.

Through the site visitors cease, a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy tried to arrest the suspect, however the suspect resisted, officers stated.

“An altercation befell between the suspect and the officer, which resulted within the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding the suspect,” the Jasper County Sheriff’s Workplace stated in a press release.

The Jasper County Coroner’s Workplace recognized him as 42-year-old Matthew W. Huttle of Hobart, Indiana.

Huttle was charged with misdemeanor offenses after trespassing into the Capitol Constructing on Jan. 6, 2021.

The Northwest Indiana Instances reported Huttle was charged with recording his entry into the Capitol’s Senate Wing and strolling by way of a number of areas inside. Safety footage was captured of Huttle on the primary ground of the Capitol.

He was sentenced to 6 months in federal jail earlier than he was launched on July 17, the paper reported.
