A former Dunning priest has been accused of assaulting a baby almost 30 years in the past, in accordance with a letter despatched by Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago.
Within the letter despatched Saturday to parishioners, Cupich mentioned Monsignor Daniel Mayall, who served as pastor at Saint Francis Borgia Parish, 8033 W. Addison St., from July 1993 to January 2002, had been accused of “sexual abuse of a minor” about 30 years in the past.
Mayall was ordered by the church to stay out of the ministry and to chorus from all parish and faculty actions, in accordance with the letter. Cupich mentioned the church had began its personal investigation and had reported the allegations to authorities.
“Whereas Monsignor strenuously denies this allegation, he has agreed to cooperate with this route,” Cupich wrote within the letter. “I need to stress that the welfare of the youngsters entrusted to our care is our paramount concern. … Within the meantime, as we undergo this course of collectively, know that you’re in my prayers.”
Mayall additionally served as pastor and senior priest of St. Joseph Parish in Wilmette between July 2016 and June 2019, in accordance with the letter. He was then senior priest of Saints Joseph and Francis Xavier Parish till June 2021, when he retired; he stayed on the parish in retirement.
