Chicago center schooler wins writing contest with youth violence essay – NBC Chicago

A Chicago seventh grader is being acknowledged for an unique essay chosen to symbolize the town at a nationwide summit in Washington D.C.

Jade Lee’s brief story on violence was chosen from 800 submissions from Chicago center schoolers for the Do the Write Factor Summit, a nationwide initiative geared toward curbing violence.

“I really feel like there’s a want to write down or attempt to make a change in youth violence as a result of it isn’t okay in any respect …It isn’t okay,” stated Jade.

Lee used actual experiences rising up in Chicago’s Roseland neighborhood to write down her essay.

“We’re very happy with her and really impressed together with her voice and management and her need to do extra say extra and be extra,” stated Rachael Beucher, principal at Chicago Worldwide Constitution College -Prairie.

Along with an all bills paid journey to D.C. subsequent month, Lee will get to satisfy with lawmakers to speak about options to violence. She may also have her essay certain and added to the Nationwide Library of Congress.

“I’ve informed my youngsters since they had been infants, use your phrases, your phrases are highly effective. Our youngsters can use their phrases for highly effective issues,” stated Brittany Powell-Lee, Jade’s mother.

Lee has additionally penned a guide, Lemons With Love, together with her little sister, Pleasure.
