Two takes on looking morels this spring


Two views of discovering spring mushrooms.

“I’ve been in search of morels for the previous 20 years,” Ryan Leonard of Park Ridge emailed Friday. “Right this moment was an `all timer.’ I discovered over 300. They had been rising in clusters. I feel yesterday’s rain actually helped.”

Some went to family and friends, others he dehydrates for the autumn and winter.

John “Moorel” Moore despatched the primary stories of morels a pair weeks in the past. The retired union carpenter (Native 58) from Roselle had good luck in Van Buren County, Michigan, discovering golden oyster mushrooms, morels and Dryad’s saddles in April.

Reminder: Mushroom selecting and foraging typically is prohibited at space forest preserves, park districts and devoted nature preserves. It’s allowed at many IDNR websites (state parks, and so forth.), however restricted till after 1 p.m. at websites with spring turkey looking through the season.
